Obituary of Eric Spoke

Please share a memory of Eric to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

SPOKE - Eric, 68, of Keystone House, Ebensburg Center, passed away January 23, 2025 at Select Specialty Care, Johnstown.  Born July 6, 1956 in Meadville, Pa. son of the late Frank J. and Mary Lu (Smith) Spoke. Eric is survived by his loving sister, Suanne “Suey” and brother-in-law, KC.    Before their passing, his parents visited frequently through the years and Eric looked forward to each one.  Visits were extra special when Suey was home from California and surprised him. He was very blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive family.    Eric loved watches and wallets and always had to have both with him throughout his days. He loved wearing seasonal hats and had many. He loved Goofy and he loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He absolutely loved Diet Pepsi. He would spend the money he received weekly in the soda machine getting his “diet pessi” as he called it.

Eric loved getting mail. His mother and sister would make sure he received a card almost every day. He would come out to check his mail right after work daily. Usually once or twice a week, his family would put a dollar in his card. Even though he knew to expect these dollars, every time he opened a card with a dollar in it, he’d hoot and holler like it was the first time…like he just hit the lottery!

Eric loved listening to music and almost always had his headphones on playing something. He loved listening to the Chipmunks and would sing along.  He was very personable, had a great sense of humor and loved be a practical joker. He was a ladies man but also enjoyed sitting around joking with the guys.

Eric was a client worker at the Ebensburg Center for many years. He loved to go to work at the Gary Bain Workshop on grounds.  As a client worker, Eric also ran "Westside on Wheels", a food delivery service, delivering lunches from Westside Pizza to Ebensburg Center Staff/residents.  When Westside closed, Eric continued his delivery service through Bestway pizza, calling it Bestway Tuesdays.  He also worked delivering newspapers to the Altoona Center on a daily basis for many years.    A very special guy, he was loved by lots of staff and had lots of friends.  He lived a very good, active and happy life in the almost 63 years he resided at the Center.  Eric will be missed by all who had the honor of getting to know him.  A Private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of Eric's family with burial in the family plot at St. Brigids Cemetery, Meadville.  Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Ebensburg, Pa.  Condolences to the family may be left at www.askew-houser.com
