Obituary of Mildred Phyllis Greer

GREER – Mildred "Phyllis" (Price), 80, Nanty Glo, went to be with her Lord Sept. 27, 2009, at home. Born April 26, 1929, in Nanty Glo, daughter of the late Thomas and Lilly May (Preece) Price. Preceded in death by husband, Frenchy Greer; grandson, Shane Price; infant sister, Gladys; sister, Margaret Travis; and brothers, Arthur C. Sr., William J., Thomas D. and Henry T. Price. Survived by children, Thomas Jeffery, married to the former Joyce Waldron, and Stephanie Irene Greer, all of Nanty Glo; and Melanie, wife of Rick Mendez, Lolo, Mont.; grandsons, Jeffery (Dana Pierson) Price and William Mendez; and great-grandson, Logan Price. Also survived by sisters, Gwendolyn Gillis, Frostburg, Md.; and Genevieve Scappino, Nanty Glo. Phyllis was married to her late husband, Frenchy, for 54 years. She was a sailor's wife and had traveled from Great Lakes, Ill., to Oakland, Calif., and down to Wrightsville, N.C. Lifetime member of Nanty Glo United Methodist Church, her second home, where she had been active in the church choir, women's association and was given a certificate for 27 years of teaching Sunday school. She had worked in the former Heisley Co. Store at the age of 17 and later worked as a sales clerk for the former Rinehart's Drug Store until she married. Phyllis enjoyed reading, going to plays and movies, dining out and loved to travel, especially taking bus trips with her friends and family. She was especially proud of her grandsons and great-grandson, they were all her sunshine. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nanty Glo United Methodist Church, Pastor John Snyder, officiating. Interment, Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown. Arrangements are in the care of the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo.
