Obituary of James Semetkosky

SEMETKOSY – James “Jim”, 71, of Nanty-Glo, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2019 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by family. He was the son of the late Michael and Laura (Lyzinski) Semetkosky. He is proceeded in death by his brother, Thomas, and infant sister, Laura Ann. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Angela, daughter Jamie Ann Semetkosky, son Michael (Laura). Also survived by precious grandchildren, Noah and Violet; sisters Marianne (Larry) Griffitt, and Martha (Bob) Felton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim loved God and raised his family in the Catholic faith. He attended daily mass at his home parish of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo with his wife until he was no longer able to. He took care of his brother, Thomas; mother, Laura; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Ann Olsavsky, until their passing. He was a proud supporter of the Red Cross, donating over 16 gallons in his lifetime. Jim also enjoyed hunting, gardening, and canning. He also liked making wooded tree flower arrangement and custom-lighted tinsel Christmas trees. He especially enjoyed trips to see his children and grandchildren. Jim worked at Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown, until he was laid off, and started a new career as a nurse’s aide at Laurel Crest in Ebensburg until his retirement. He was a member of the America Needs Fatima and Honorary Life Member, 3rd Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Jim will be remembered as a man of faith, family, and the outdoors. He will be sadly missed and forever loved by those who knew him. Friends will be received from 2-4PM and 6-8PM Thursday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc. Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church at 10AM Friday with the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Committal, St. Mary’s Cemetery.
