ROSE – Duane Devlin, 82, of Vintondale passed away Jan. 28, 2010 at Windber Hospice. Born March 19, 1927 in Johnstown, son of the late Walter and Fern (Devlin) Rose. Preceded in death by son, Barry Duane, granddaughter, Crystal Rose and grandson, Remington Rose. Survived by wife of 62 years, Dorothy (McFeaters) Rose; and children, Victoria married to Darl Murton, Michael married to Kathleen (Kuhar) Rose, Mark married to Pam (Boyer) Rose, and Remington married to Traci (Shank) Rose. Grandchildren, Michelle married to Frank Safko, Clint married to Jessie (Hunt) Rose, Daron married to Veronica (Zarnesky) Murton, Adam and Kelley. Great grandchildren, Mike, Sammi, Austin, Isaiah, Clinton, Autumn and Ryan. Lifetime member of Pike Grace Brethren Church, Mundys Corner, where he served the Lord as deacon, cemetery trustee and assistant Sunday School teacher. He enlisted in the Navy and served from 1944 until the end of World War II in 1946. After being named Honor Man of his company, he attended Gunnery School and boarded the USS Sable in San Francisco where he served aboard in Guam and Saipan. Graduate of Central Cambria High School in 1945. Duane farmed 120 acres and raised milking shorthorn cattle for 25 years. He worked for Bethlehem Mines for 32 years, where he began as boom boy and retired as supervisor. Lifetime member of the NRA. Friends will be received from 2-9 pm on Sunday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo and from 11:30am until time of funeral service at noon on Monday at Pike Grace Brethren Church, Pastors Jacob Snyder and Drew Walther, officiating. Interment, Pike Brethren Cemetery.
