MALLOY – John J., Jr., 88, of Vintondale, died at home on July 19, 2012 at home, surrounded by his family and wife of 68 years. Born July 24, 1923, son of the late John J. and Mary (Frantz) Malloy. He is preceded in death by son John Malloy, III, daughter Sharon Boothby, granddaughter Theresa, great-granddaughter Hannah (Lewis), great-grandson Brett (Zarnesky), brothers Harry and William Malloy and Edward Cummings and sister Mary Robeson. Survived by wife, Olive; daughters: Diane (Gary) Boring, Patricia (Richard) Saylor, Laurie (Mike) Gergely, Lynda (Steve) Claar, Vicki (Donnie) Strayer, sons: Kevin (Joann), Keith (Bonnie), Dale (Debbie), Mike (Mary) Malloy, son-in-law Richard Boothby, daughter-in-law Frances Malloy and sister Gertrude Gibson. Also survived by 36 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. John met his wife in Bedford, England, while serving with the Army Air Corp Chemical Warfare Division. He worked in the coal mines, serving as union president at the former Vintondale Colliery. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. He was the former Mayor and a Councilman for Vintondale Borough. A member of the Sierra Club, Historical Society, and served as a Democratic Committeeman. John was an avid glass collector and enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Pastor Rich Stock, officiating. Military Rite by Twin Rocks, Nanty Glo, and Vintondale veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to John’s family.
