BATOVICH – Edward D., 84, of Nanty Glo, passed away peacefully February 28, 2010 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center. Born February 26, 1926 in Nanty Glo, son of the late John and Annie (Pavlik) Batovich. Preceded in death by wife, the former Victoria Carrasco; brothers: Ralph and John; and sisters: Anne Lawrence, Rose Kopco, Genevieve Batovich and Josephine Deetscreek. Survived by daughters: Claudia Batovich, at home; Victoria C. (Major Devvon) Bradley, Fort Meade, Maryland; and grandsons Justis and Jordan. Also survived by brother Thomas and numerous nieces and nephews. A retired steelworker and World War II Navy veteran. Ed enjoyed sponsoring children worldwide through the Christian Foundation for Children. Member of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Mundys Corner; Nanty Glo VFW and the Polish American Citizens Club in Nanty Glo. Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Vianney Church, Rev. Andrew Stanko, celebrant. Entombment at Holy Name Mausoleum. Military Rite by local veterans organizations will be held at the funeral home prior to the mass on Wednesday.
