Obituary of Elizabeth Szekeresh

SZEKERESH – Elizabeth, 92, of Mundys Corner, passed away March 13, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center. Born August 16, 1917 in Watkins, daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Duffla) Shuagis. Last surviving member of her immediate family, she is preceded in death by daughter Theresa; sons Albert James and Joseph Szekeresh; grandsons Bryce Kupchella and Michael Kuhar; five brother and two sisters. Survived by husband, Martin, to whom she married May 13, 1934, and enjoyed over 75 years; and children: Mary Ann (Bill) Smith, Ebensburg; Elizabeth Ford (Ron Hoffman), Franklin, Pa.; Martin (Helen) Szekeresh, Payson, Arizona; Rosemarie (John) Kuhar, Vintondale; Thomas Szekeresh, Mundys Corner; Robert (Isela) Szekeresh, Huntington Beach, California; Margaret (Tim) Kasper, Milesburg; Andrew Szekeresh, Mundys Corner; Patricia (John) Kupchella, Strongstown; Susan (Jerry) Huber, Ebensburg; as well as 43 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by daughters-in-law, Simone Szekeresh, Mundys Corner and Colleen Szekeresh, Lenanon, Ohio. A founding member of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Mundys Corner, where she assisted in the kitchen. Elizabeth was an avid bowler, bingo player, and loved her casino trips. She was a special lady with a deep love of her God, her faith, her husband and family. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 2-4 & 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo, where a vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Vianney Church, the Rev. Andrew Stanko, celebrant. Committal at St. Mary’s Cemtery. Nanty Glo. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to St. John Vianney or St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
