SHOEMAKER- Alvin "Poppy", 86, of Mundys Corner, joined the saints of heaven, March 17, 2010. Born June 11, 1923 in Mineral Point, son of the late Harry L., Sr. and Marie (Barr) Shoemaker. Preceded in death by 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Survived by wife of 63 years, former Margaret L. Vorhauer and children, David (Theresa) Shoemaker; Linda (James) Kuzminsky; John (Deborah) Shoemaker; Richard (Susan) Shoemaker; and Michael (Courtney) Shoemaker; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sister, Helen Reynolds. Lifemember of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mundys Corner. Lifemember of Chickaree Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. Veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater. An avid camper, fisherman and hunter. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8pm on Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo and from 10:30am until time of funeral service at 11am on Saturday at St. Pauls Church, Pastor Ron Reed, officiating. Private interment at Ogden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Alvins memory may be made to St. Pauls Church- Luther Hall Fund.
