MICHELBACHER URE – Aileen, 95, of Vintondale, passed away March 3, 2010 at home. Born Jan. 17, 1915 in Vintondale, the second of seven daughters to the late John J. and Mable (Hampson) Huth. Preceded in death by husbands, Carl Michelbacher (1973) and Lewis Ure (2002), daughter, Margaret Bookman (2008), sisters, Agnes Dusza, Margaret Schmidt, Claire Sebulsky and Christine Beresford.;and lifelong friend, Lynette D. Tarr. Survived by children, Luke (Helen Kowal) Michelbacher, Nanty Glo; Mary Beth (David) Lasinsky, Nanty Glo; Fred Michelbacher; Vintondale and Carl (Barbara Basile) Michelbacher, Pittsburgh; Grandchildren, Mariel Michelbacher, Maraya, Anne, and Eric Lasinsky; Mia and Carlyn Michelbacher;Aubrey, Jocelyn, and Kyle Bookman. Also survived by sisters, Jean Hammer, of Johnstown; and Carol Brest of California; son in law, Marc Bookman, Philadelphia; and many loving nieces and nephews. Aileen was a WW II veteran who served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was awarded three bronze stars, which she was proud of, but felt others were more deserving. Member of Herbert B. Daly VFW Post 5211, Vintondale. She was a 1950 graduate of the Hosp. of Univ. of PA School of Nursing, Philadelphia. She was employed by the former Lee Hospital and retired from the Ebensburg Center. Aileen cared for many of the Vintondale residents. Member of SS. Timothy & Mark Chapel, Vintondale. Actively involved with community and church organizations. While small in stature she was large in kindness, compassion and in service to others. As per Aileen’s wishes a memorial mass will be held in the Spring to which all family and friends are invited. Arrangements by the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes., Inc, Nanty Glo. Donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society c/o St. Marys Catholic Church, Nanty Glo in Aileen’s memory.
