STRAPPLE - Charles W., 87 of Nanty Glo, passed away March 24, 2010 at Cambria Care Center, Ebensburg. Born October 9, 1922 in Nanty Glo, son of the late William and Marie (Ford) Strapple. Preceded in death by wife, the former Sarah E. Johns, and infant brothers James and Frederick. Survived by brothers: Thomas (Helen) Strapple of Saginaw, Minnesota; William Straple, Coatesville; Leonard Straple, Summerhill; Albert and Patrick (Mary Lou) Straple all of Nanty Glo. Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunt June Miller, Belsano; special niece Eleanor LaRocco, Georgia; grandnephew Thomas LaRocco, Virginia, and special cousin Betty Amigh, Mundys Corner. Mr. Strapple was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Nanty Glo. A World War II Marine Corp Veteran, he was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Catholic War Veterans. He participated in action in the Pacific, including Roi- Namur, Marshall Island, Saipan, Marianas Island, Iwo Jima, and Volcano Island. Retired from the US Postal Service and a member of the Letter Carriers Union. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Friday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a vigil prayer service will be held Friday. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Martin A. Cingle, celebrant. Committal at St. Mary's Cemetery. Military graveside rites by the Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team.
