TOY - William Jay, 89, of Belsano, went to be with his Lord July 24, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center, Main Campus. Born Aug. 15, 1916, in Cherryhill Township, Indiana County, son of the late William O. and Elsie (Waltermire) Toy, and stepfather, Hiram Edminston. Awaiting his heavenly arrival were his wife, Etta Josephine Toy; son, Alvie Jay; and sister, Marie McQuay. Last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by daughter, Barbara, and husband, William Tobin Sr., of Ebensburg; grandchildren, William Jr.; Edward, and wife, Mitzi; and Tracy Toy-Zimmerman; great-granddaughter, Halie Brooke Tobin, with whom he enjoyed many visits and loved watching cartoons and movies with; great-grandson, John Jay Zimmerman; stepgreat-granddaughters, Chat? Pummel and Blair Wines; and stepgreat-great-granddaughter, Jade Hoover. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Linda Toy of Belsano, and numerous nieces and nephews. Formerly attended Belsano Faith United Methodist Church. Presently attended Laurel Swamp Union Church, Penn Run. World War II Army veteran, technician 5th Grade, 22nd Engineers 5th Armored Division Company B. Demobilition Specialists 533 in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, having received Good Conduct Medal and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. Retired from Beth Energy Mines. Member of UMWA. William enjoyed fishing and making many different items in his woodshop. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Clayton Harriger officiating. Interment, Laurel Swamp Cemetery, Penn Run.
