SIMMONS - Leroy T., 88, of Mundys Corner, and formerly of Nanty Glo and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away March 24, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. Born December 2, 1921 in Mundys Corner, son of the late Elmer H. and Pearl (Byers) Simmons. Preceded in death by wife of 59 years, the former Mae Edith Soulsby, who passed away in 2005; brothers: Theodore, Kenny, Elmer and E. J. Simmons, and sisters Odessa Yancey, Vera Mottin and Mazie Savering. Survived by daughters: Peggy (George), wife of Donald Deetscreek, Ebensburg; Patricia Nelson, Frederick, Maryland; Karen, wife of Don DeGol, Sr., Hollidaysburg; and Susan, wife of Thomas Luther of Ebensburg; grandchildren: Kim Ziance, Sharon McDermott, Susan Hollis, Gary Jr. and Nick Erculiani, Christine Nelson, Sarah Powell, Don DeGol, Jr. and Tracey DeGol, Megan Feeney, Nathan Luther, Amy Baker, Neil Snedden, and Gretchen Luther; as well as 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by brother, Olen Simmons of Anchorage, Alaska. Longtime member of Pike Grace Brethren Church. Retired from Bethlehem Steel, Gautier Division, Johnstown. Leroy was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed 20 years in Fort Myers, Florida, where he was an avid golfer, bowler, and fisherman. In later years, enjoyed spending time at his farm in Mundys Corner in his golf cart with his special pet “little dog”. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was a loving father. Friends will be received from 6-9 pm, Friday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday at Pike Grace Brethren Church, the Rev. Jacob Snyder and Rev. Bradley Deetscreek, officiating. Interment at Pike Brethren Cemetery. Military graveside rites by the Menoher Post #155 VFW Ritual Team.
