HANCHARICK – John M., Sr. “Hench”, 86, of Nanty Glo, passed away July 18, 2011 at home. Born June 27, 1925 in Coalport, son of the late John S. and Helen P. (Eget) Hancharick. Preceded in death by brother, Joseph S. Hancharick; and sister, Helen Krempasky. Survived by wife of 55 years, the former Waneda R. Britten; and children, John M. Hancharick, Jr.; Ann M. Garrett; Marge Knopp; and David P. (Karen) Hancharick. 5 Grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Mary Ann (John) Demchak; and Marge Younkin; sister in law, Kathryne Hancharick; and numerous nieces and nephews. Member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo. WW II Marine Corps. veteran. Member and Officer of Nanty Glo VFW Post 3489. Member Nanty Glo American Legion Post 619. Retired from Bethlehem Mine # 33, Ebensburg, with over 30 years of service. Member UMWA. John was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener; and loved picking mushrooms. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Martin Cingle, celebrant. Committal to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military Rites by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks and Vintondale area veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory may be made to his family.
