SMIDGA - Rita M., 63 of Colver, passed away July 11, 2011 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 20, 1947 in Nanty Glo, daughter of the late Paul D. and Rose (Strenko) Smidga. Preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Irene M. Smidga-Krupa, Catherine Brubaker, Ronald, Mary Jane, Maureen, William and an infant brother, Richard. Survived by son, Daniel S. Ploaich, at home; brothers: Paul D., Nanty Glo; Walter, Glen Burnie, Maryland; and Robert, of New York, and sister, Rose Marie Harper, Kentucky. Rita retired as a nurses aid at the Ebensburg Center, with 36 years of service. Rita took great pride in raising her son and caring for “her kids” at the Ebensburg Center. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 6:00 p.m., Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, Deacon Tom Buige, officiating. Committal at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Nanty Glo.
