RANKIN - Walter Earl, Jr., 79, of Seward, passed away September 3, 2017 at home. Born December 15, 1937 in Conemaugh, son of the late Walter Clarence and Twila (Heitzenrater) Rankin, Sr. Preceded in death by wife, the former Rose Ann McGlynn; daughter Robin Baldish; infant great-granddaughter Nevaeh Rankin, sister, Elizabeth Sandoval; and infant brother Everett. Survived by children: Darlene Rankin, Nanty Glo; and Walter (Rebecca) Rankin III, Huntington, Indiana; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother and sisters: Alice Wagner; Phyllis (Sam) Foreman; Diane (Roy) Rager; Ardyth (Tom) Reed; Richard (Pat) Rankin, and Ginny Rankin. Walt was a member of the Dilltown Sportsman Club, and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a retired truck driver for Bethlehem Steel Corporation and was a Korean War veteran, where his specialty was heavy vehicle driver. He also received a Sharpshooter Badge while serving his country. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Pastor Bob Westrick, officiating. Interment at Pineland Cemetery, Strongstown. Military Rites by local veteran’s organizations.
