FETZER- Dean L., 91, of Jackson Twp., entered into a new life on April 12, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born April 8, 1923 in Nanty Glo, son of the late Charles and Viola (Rager) Garver Fetzer. Preceded in death by wife of 66 years, the former Betty Sullinger; two infant sons; step sisters, Violet, Hazel and Beatrice; step brother, Robert; brother Charles; and grandchildren, Ricky Jr., Terry, Joey and Dajaun; and son in law, Ed Holcomb. Survived by daughters, Shirley Fetzer and Diane Holcomb; sons, Barry (Deborah), Rick (Connie), Ron (Lois), Kevin (Carol), and Randy; nephew, Scott; as well as 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Also survived by sisters, Rita and Leona; brothers, Clyde and Will; and numerous nieces and nephews. Retired in 1978 after 37 years with Bethlehem Mines, a WW II Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient, having served in the Pacific Theater. He loved his family, friends and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he served throughout his life. As a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Nanty Glo, he served as Alliance Men s President for many years. He loved to travel, working with missions on 6 of 7 continents. He always remarked he lived his life to the fullest and will be remembered as a man who was obedient to God and devoted to his family. Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 6- 8 p.m. Monday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Pastors Geno Bartoletti and Russ Havener, officiating. Interment to follow at Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. Military Rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks and Vintondale area veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dean s memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
