VOGATSKY - John J, Sr.,89, of Jackson Twp., passed away Jan. 19, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 11, 1924 in Johnstown, son of the late Michael and Barbara (Galayda) Vagacski. Preceded in death by wife, Mary Margaret; sisters, Barbara Wolff, Julia Yeager, Annie Vogatsky; and two infant sisters. Survived by children, Bernadette (Jeff) Peters; Barbara A. Wyrwas; Michael R.; John B.;Eugene (Roxanne) Vogatsky; Gloria Vogatsky Denorcy; Daniel; and Joseph (Julia) Vogatsky. 9 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; and 1 great grandson on the way. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Mundys Corner, where he was a longtime member of Legion of Mary. Member Knights of Columbus. WW II Air Force veteran. Lifemember Nanty Glo VFW. Retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. John enjoyed playing bingo, his flowers and gardening; and loved listening to polka music. A special thank you to his son, Michael, who was his primary caregiver throughout his illness; as well as to Ascera Care Hospice Team for their loving care and guidance. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc.,Nanty Glo, where vigil prayer service will be held that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. John Vianney Church, the Very Rev. Andrew C. Stanko, VF, celebrant. Committal at SS.Peter & Paul Cemetery, Johnstown. Military Rite by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks, and Vintondale area Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers donations in John's memory may be made to St. John Vianney Church Renovation Fund.
