I worked with John during the 1990's for at least ten years, he was a great attorney for the city of austin, especially the Water Utility. We worked closely on contracts and legal issues between the utility and its major customers. I will always appreciate his attention to details and how professional he handled business. We both retired from the City and didn't keep up with each other as much as I now wish we had. I am sadden for not knowing of his battle with cancer. Rest in peace my friend. Mike Erdmann

I worked with John at the Comptroller's office as well and I thought he was such an amazing attorney. My own mother passed away from cancer this past January at age 69 and I wish I had known that he was battling cancer sooner so that I could visit. My best to you his family. Hugs.

I'm sorry to hear of John's passing. I had several occasions in years past to work with John on land development matters (from the other side of the table), and ultimately enjoyed those interactions. He wasn't always relaying good news, but he was prompt, decisive, and courteous. You can't ask for more than that from opposing counsel. Sincere condolences to his family. Ken Mills.

I second the comments posted by Sedora. I also worked with John for many years in Austin and could always rely on him to provide sound legal analysis as well as helpful thoughts about the practical issues surrounding any situation. Some might label John a bit quirky, but I - along with many others - found that very endearing. I really enjoyed working with John all those years ago and am saddened to learn of his passing. I just learned of John’s death upon reading the obit in the Austin American-Statesman newspaper. I worked with John at the City of Austin Law Department. He was a knowledgeable and reliable development law attorney. More than that, he was a no-nonsense, decent and fair human being. He never got swept up in the political winds or forces undergirding any issue; he delivered objective and useful legal advice. He also embraced me as a professional and leader—a reception I didn’t always get from veterans of the Law Department. But that was John: a consummate professional and all-around good man.
