Obituary of Margaret Russell

RUSSELL – Margaret “Peg”, 95, of Nanty Glo, went to be with the Lord, her husband and family on March 6, 2023. Born Oct. 15, 1927 in Johnstown, daughter of the late George and Ella (Petrilla) Berdomas. Preceded in death by husband, Robert Thomas Russell, Sr.; and sister, Carmen DeYulis. Survived by children, Theresa “Teri” (Thomas) Mesoras; Kathleen (Robert) Donaldson; and Robert “Tom” Russell. Grandchildren, Dr. Chris (Johnna) Donaldson; Jennifer (Dr. Shriram) Sirsikar; Amber and Seth (Jennifer) Mesoras; Collin (Kimberly) and Simon Russell. 12 Great Grandchildren. Sister of Mary Orsini; Katherine Soyka; Delores Kopenitz; George Berdomas; Joseph (Jean) Berdomas; and Donna (Marco) DeRubis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nanty Glo. Member of the Lioness Club. Retired from the former Laurel Crest Manor, where she worked for many years as an LPN. An avid bingo player, Peg also enjoyed going to the casinos and scratch-offs. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Askew-Houser Funeral Homes, Inc., Nanty Glo. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. Leonard Voytek, celebrant. Committal to follow at Holy Name Mausoleum, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peg’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church.
